Speaker:

Abstract:

Digital standards: the foundation for scalable, software-driven laboratories

Speaker:
Michael Levy, MSc, MBA, and Michael Levy, M.Sc., M.B.A., and SVP Digital & Innovation

Abstract:
Many lab workflows are still constrained by standards designed for traditional rather than digital processes. Digital transformation requires more than digitizing documents. It requires standards that are structured, machine-readable, and built to flow between systems. In this session, USP will explore how digital standards can support scalable, software-driven laboratories. Attendees will learn how machine-readable standards, digital reference data, and structured laboratory content can help improve data integrity, traceability, interoperability, and automation across ELN, LIMS, LES, and analytics platforms. The session will also highlight how USP is advancing digital standards development and demonstrate practical applications through USP MethodConnect and USP-ID.

Modernising Safety Systems: Navigating the Next Wave of Pharmacovigilance Transformation

Overview:

KEY THEMES
•Platform modernisation. From legacy to cloud-native — why safety organisations are retiring on-premise platforms and what a phased migration path typically looks like.
•AI and automation in case processing. Where machine learning is genuinely changing day-to-day safety operations — case triage, duplicate detection, signal detection, and narrative drafting — versus where it remains early-stage.
•Real-world evidence integration. How electronic health records, claims data, and patient-reported outcomes are being layered onto spontaneous reporting to strengthen benefit-risk assessment.
•Japan-specific regulatory considerations. Practical implications of E2B(R3) and PMDA reporting requirements for organisations running or migrating safety systems that must serve the Japanese market alongside global operations.
•Change management and governance. Why safety system transformation succeeds or stalls on governance, data quality, and workforce readiness — not on technology selection alone.
