As Japanese pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies increasingly pursue global development strategies from the early stages of drug development, the ability to successfully transition from local to global programs has become a critical success factor. However, differences in regulatory expectations among PMDA, FDA, and EMA, variations in healthcare practices and standards of care, as well as language and cultural barriers, continue to present significant challenges.

This luncheon seminar will explore key success factors for achieving global development from Japan, drawing on Parexel’s extensive experience supporting Japanese sponsors in international clinical development. Topics will include global development strategy, regulatory alignment, governance models for multinational trials, and operational approaches that enable efficient execution across regions.
In addition, a case study from a global Phase III trial in a rare disease will demonstrate how patient advocacy and early patient engagement contributed to protocol optimization, accelerated recruitment, improved retention, and reduced study complexity. The session will highlight the value of incorporating patient perspectives early in development and discuss how patient-centric approaches can strengthen both trial execution and regulatory acceptance.
Attendees will gain practical insights into the strategic, operational, and patient-focused considerations necessary to successfully “Go Global” and accelerate the development of innovative therapies worldwide.

RBM / Practical RBM in Viedoc EDC: From Site Risk Assessment to SDV Action

Speaker :
Johannes Molin
Viedoc、Product Manager
Dr. Hidenobu Kondo

Abstract :

Although the need for risk-based monitoring (RBM) is widely recognized, implementation may require highly functional and costly dedicated systems, specialized teams, and complex operational design. As a result, some studies defer RBM adoption and continue with 100% source data verification (SDV) & 100% source data review (SDR) across all sites and data points. However, the essence of RBM is not the implementation of a complex system. It is the continuous assessment of site-level risk and the adjustment of monitoring activities based on the results of that assessment.
In this session, we will introduce the Kondo Method, proposed by Dr. Kondo of A2 Healthcare Corporation, together with the use of MRACT and SDV Manager to put its principles into practice within Viedoc EDC.
With MRACT, monitors—who are closest to the operational realities of each site—can assess site risk continuously and systematically with the assessment results of risk indicator of site performance. Based on the assessment results, the scope of SDV can be increased or reduced for each site. In other words, risk assessment does not end as a documentation exercise; it is translated into concrete monitoring actions.
This entire process can be carried out within Viedoc EDC. Without introducing a separate, high-cost RBM system, sponsors can manage site risk assessment, review, risk-level determination, and the assignment of site-specific SDV plans within the EDC they already use. SDV plans can also be adjusted as site risk changes, without revising the CRF design.
In addition to explaining the Kondo Method, this session will use the actual Viedoc interface to demonstrate how site risk assessments can be translated into SDV plans in practice. The choice is not limited to implementing an expensive and complex RBM system or continuing with 100% SDV & SDR.

Speaker :
Tomoyuki Yamashita

Abstract :

In June 2026, ICH E6(R3) Annex II reached Step 4, and the FDA released draft guidance on the use of AI—signaling major shifts in the regulatory landscape surrounding DCTs and AI adoption. On the ground, however, implementation is still catching up: the shift from simulated to real-world DCTs, and the true operational embedding of risk-based quality management, both remain works in progress. This session takes an honest look at the gap between regulation and practice, considers the value created for sponsors, CROs, and patients alike, and proposes the next step toward the essential goal of reducing patient burden.

Abstract :

Defining a corporate strategy alone does not guarantee results.
With limited people, budget, and time, organizations need to look beyond the success of individual projects and consider how multiple projects should be managed as a whole. Which projects should be selected? What should be prioritized? And where should resources be allocated? These decisions can ultimately determine whether strategy is successfully executed.
In this session, we will explore how Project Portfolio Management (PPM) can help connect corporate strategy with individual projects, establish priorities, and continuously reassess them as business conditions change. We will also look at how organizations can take a cross-project view of resources, budgets, and progress across multiple initiatives—such as R&D, digital transformation, and new business development—and build a framework that turns ongoing decision-making into execution.
How can organizations move beyond the mindset that “everything is important” and direct resources toward the initiatives that truly matter?
From executives and PMs/PMOs to R&D and corporate planning professionals, this session will offer practical perspectives on how to move from simply defining strategy to building an organization capable of executing it.

Overview:

While the use of generative AI is rapidly expanding in business, CRO operations require careful attention to information security, high-quality deliverables, regulatory compliance, and accountability to clients. Since 2023, CMIC has created internal AI usage guidelines, provided employee training, and gradually deployed Copilot across the company. In July 2026, we also established an “AI Basic Policy” with six core principles, including human-centered safety and strong governance.
CMIC has implemented tools such as Copilot, Dify, Databricks, Bluenote, and AI translation, and has run various proof-of-concept (PoC) projects using AI models like Claude for document creation, information search, data analysis, software development, and process automation.
This session will introduce CMIC’s AI initiatives and share practical examples of how we have standardized work processes and provided support to ensure AI can be used by everyone. We will also discuss key considerations such as maintaining human oversight (human-in-the-loop), enforcing access controls, and preventing the use of confidential client information in AI model training.
Our goal is not to simply implement new tools, but to improve work processes, quality, and trust simultaneously. As a CRO, we aim to make responsible use of AI to enhance the quality and speed of pharmaceutical development.
